ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones is expected to announce her campaign for reelection in the coming weeks, sources confirmed to 5 On Your Side on Tuesday.
Jones will officially announce her campaign at an event on May 16 at the Third Degree Glass Factory, an art studio on Delmar Boulevard, according to Christopher Camie with Meyers Okohson Political Consulting. Doors to the event will open at 5:30 p.m.
"Mayor Jones does have a number of office-side events and engagements, with the most exciting of course being the State of the City address on the 14th. However, the kickoff at Third Degree is going to be the first major opportunity to connect with Mayor Jones on campaign-specific activities," Camie said.
Jones, at her 2023 State of the City address, made numerous promises to city residents while illustrating that St. Louis is still a city stuck in the past. Jones vowed to reduce crime and speed up city services over the long term and called on Missouri Republicans to stop their push to transition the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department into state control and their culture war in the state's public schools.
"The kind of long-term, transformative change we’re working on doesn’t happen overnight," she said. "We can't go back to the so-called golden era of St. Louis. Leaving the past behind hurts, but we also need to recognize that the St. Louis of the past didn’t work for everyone. It never worked for people who looked like me. And in many cases, it still doesn’t."
