CREVE COEUR, Mo. — Five or six Creve Coeur homes were evacuated early Friday morning after firefighters found an unspecified hazardous material while responding to a house fire, the city's fire marshal told 5 On Your Side.

Firefighters were dispatched to the area in the 12000 block of Lake Constance Drive at around 12:30 a.m. after getting calls about a fire, Creve Coeur Fire Marshal Jason McIntosh said. Crews extinguished the fire soon after, but found a hazardous material while investigating the source of the fire inside the house.

The St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Team responded to the scene soon after to also confirm the presence of the material. A hazmat unit dispatched to the scene was the third entity to confirm the material.

Officials evacuated approximately five to six residences in the area, McIntosh said. No injuries were reported.

The St. Louis County Police Department is investigating the incident. No specific details about the hazardous material were shared with 5 On Your Side.
