22 families affected, firefighter injured after fire at St. Peters apartment complex

The fire began around 1:45 a.m. at Turnberry Place Apartments

ST. PETERS, Mo. — A firefighter was injured and 22 families have been affected by an apartment complex fire in St. Peters.

The fire began around 1:45 a.m. on Friday at Turnberry Place Apartments. The apartment complex is located just north of Interstate 70.

Everyone was evacuated from the complex. Central County Fire and Rescue said one person was treated for injuries at the scene.

The firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. He's expected to make a full recovery.

The spokesperson said an officer's quick actions helped ensure all residents of the building were evacuated.

“As 911 reports were coming in, a St. Peters Police Department officer in the area saw heavy smoke and requested additional officers to the assist in the evacuation of the building. The quick actions of those officers ensured all the residents were evacuated before fire conditions overwhelmed their apartments," Jason Meinershagen said.

The fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions as they arrived at the scene.

"The coordinated attack with our mutual aid partners quickly brought the fire under control, serving as a great reminder of why these partnerships with our neighboring agencies are so important.”

The Central County Fire and Rescue spokesperson said 22 families have been affected by the fire and that the entire building was damaged by water since the fire was on the third floor.

It took nearly three hours for the fire to get under control. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The Cottleville Fire Protection District, St. Charles Fire Department, O'Fallon Fire Protection District, Lake Saint Louis Fire Protection District, and St. Charles County Ambulance District assisted on the call.

“Through our mutual aid agreement we train and respond with these agencies on a regular basis. This ongoing partnership is critically important in keeping our community safe,” said Meinershagen.

Donations for those impacted by the fire can be delivered to the Turnberry Apartments office, 100 Turnberry Place, St. Peters, MO 63376 or by calling 636-477-0440.
