WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. — The state is now looking into the fireworks incident that injured 11 people in Webster Groves.
About 13 minutes into the annual Independence Day fireworks display, a firework shot into the crowd and exploded. The horizontal shell traveled towards the safety fencing and exploded which sent fragment and sparks over the fence and into the crowd. Eleven people were treated and released at the scene of the incident.
Webster Groves city leaders said a report on the accident was sent to the State Fire Marshal for review.
The city leaders also said they are reviewing safety procedures to make sure future crowds are safe.
City officials canceled the July 6 show and released the following statement after the incident:
‘Our primary focus is always the safety and welfare of the individuals that choose to attend our programs and activities. We are committed to a full, complete and transparent review of everything that occurred on July 4. We must determine that every possible safety measure for this venue be reviewed and implemented to assure the safety of our spectators.’
