RAYMOND, Ill. (AP) - Illinois officials officially renamed a central Illinois rest stop after a state trooper who was killed during a 2012 crash.
Thursday morning's ceremony honoring Trooper Kyle Deatherage was held at the Coalfield rest area on Interstate 55 near Raymond.
The 32-year-old died in November 2012 when a tractor-trailer struck him on Interstate 55 near Litchfield in central Illinois about 45 miles south of Springfield. A Georgia truck driver has been charged in Deatherage's death.
Deatherage had been a trooper since May 2009.
After Thursday's ceremony the Illinois State Police say the northbound and southbound Coalfield rest stops at milepost 64 on Interstate 55 will officially be called the Trooper Kyle Deatherage Memorial Rest Stops.
The rest stop is the first in the state to be named after a fallen trooper.
