ST. LOUIS — Three men in a pick-up truck were held at gunpoint by two unknown suspects in a Black sedan in south St. Louis Wednesday morning.
Police said the suspects demanded the pick-up truck, but the victims put the car in reverse and tried to drive away.
St. Louis police said that's when one of the suspects fired a single shot, hitting a 50-year-old passenger in his right leg.
The attempted carjacking happened around 3:15 a.m. in the 4200 block of Beck Avenue, police said.
The victim was able to drive his truck to the QuikTrip at Gravois and Loughborough avenues, about 2 miles from the crime scene, where police and paramedics helped him.
On Wednesday, 5 On Your Side's Diamond Palmer spoke to the manager of another QuikTrip near the scene. He said the victims involved in the incident often park the truck at the gas station and he's told them to stop.
According to the manager, he said the victims came back after the incident and told the manager they got shot quote "because of him."
Within the last week, Sgt. Charles Wall said there have been 116 car thefts and 18 robberies, two of which have been carjackings.
Police said they want the public to stay alert at all times.
"No matter the circumstances, you should always be aware of your surroundings as it relates to limiting your possibility of becoming a victim of a carjacking," Wall said.
At this time, police have not released the victim's name. There are currently no suspects in custody. No other information was made available regarding the incident.
