SUV wanted in homicide crashes during pursuit on Chain of Rocks Bridge; 1 in custody

Neither the driver of the SUV or the occupants of the other vehicle it crashed into suffered obvious injuries, police said.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Eastbound Interstate 270 has reopened at the Chain of Rocks Bridge after an SUV crashed during a police pursuit Wednesday evening.

A St. Louis County Police Department spokesperson said an officer was in the area of eastbound I-270 and Lilac Avenue at 5:18 p.m. when they spotted a silver Chevrolet SUV wanted in connection with a homicide. 

The officer tried to pull the SUV over but the driver sped off, police said. A police pursuit ensued on I-270 until the SUV crashed into another vehicle on the Chain of Rocks Bridge.

Neither the suspect nor the two occupants of the other vehicle suffered any obvious injuries, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody.

Eastbound I-270 was closed for a time while police processed the scene. It has since reopened.
