MINNEAPOLIS - A major retailer says they're getting out of the hoverboard business -- at least for now.
Target said they have paused the sale of hoverboards on Target.com.
They say the move is in response to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, who issued a hoverboard certification protocol last week stating the scooters do not meet safety standards and pose a risk of fire.
In a statement, Target said, "We take product safety very seriously at Target and are proactively working with our vendors to ensure they are compliant with these new safety standards and certification protocol.
A Target communications spokesperson said guests who purchased one of their hoverboards online -- either the Swagway or Razor -- and have concerns about safety, may return the item in store or online.
Reports say Amazon quietly pulled its hoverboards from the website overnight, as well.
