MADISON, Ill. — Two people were arrested as persons of interest Tuesday, just hours after a 15-year-old boy died and two other people were injured in a shooting in the 1500 block of 4th Street in Madison, Illinois.
When police arrived at the home Monday at 7:40 p.m., they found three males suffering from gunshot wounds. All three victims were transported to the hospital.
A 15-year-old boy, later identified as Omarion D. Coleman, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other two gunshot victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man, remain hospitalized. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
Police received a tip and surrounded a home one block away from the scene. After a standoff, officers arrested one suspect. Tuesday afternoon, police announced the arrest of a second suspect.
The Major Case Squad will file charges on Thursday.
Neighbors say the area has changed over the years. Ada Walker, 52, has lived in Madison her whole life. She said the neighborhood felt safer when she raised her kids there.
“It could have been one of my own,” Walker said. “I have grand-babies, too, so I could imagine how that feels.”
