Teen shot a block from America's Center Convention Complex

An unknown suspect fired a gun several times as he was driving a sedan, the victim told police.

ST. LOUIS — A drive-by shooting a block away from the America's Center Convention Complex sent a teenager to the hospital Sunday evening, a brief report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said Monday.

The victim, a 17-year-old boy, told police a man driving a black sedan opened fire as he drove past the victim around 4:30 p.m. near 9th and Carr streets, which puts the shooting less than 100 yards from the Convention Complex.

"The 17-year-old was struck in the thigh and then privately conveyed to the hospital," the police statement said. "The 17-year-old refused to provide further information."

More information may be forthcoming further into the investigation. This story will be updated with the latest information as it becomes available.

"Anyone with a tip about this incident who wants to remain anonymous and is interested in a possible reward for their tip can contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477)," the police statement said. "Only tips submitted to CrimeStoppers are eligible for CrimeStoppers’ rewards."

Officers with SLMPD's Fourth District began investigating the shooting.

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged home from the emergency department after being shot.
