ST. LOUIS — A "male in his late teens" was shot and killed in Bellefontaine Neighbors Saturday morning, police said. A St. Louis County Police Department spokesperson said investigators have not determined the victim's identity or age.

Police from the City of Bellefontaine Neighbors responded to a shooting call at 2:40 a.m. Saturday on the 1100 block of Troy Drive.

According to the police report, officers arrived at the scene where the victim was found with a gunshot injury on the 1100 block of Oran Drive.

Police said the investigation revealed that a juvenile, the victim and another known person were in a car on Oran Drive in order to "check vehicles." The juvenile was approaching a vehicle when police said a man pointed a firearm at the juvenile, who ran back into the car.

The man was later identified as 46-year-old Michael Tolden.

Tolden fired toward the car, striking and killing the driver, police said.

Tolden was arrested on charges of first degree murder, first degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. He was held on a $1,000,000 cash-only bond.

St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives assumed the investigation.
