Teen struck by bus near South Roxana school

WOOD RIVER, Ill. – A teenage girl was airlifted to a hospital after being hit by a bus in Wood River Monday morning.

The teen was struck by a Madison County transit bus on Illinois Route 111, Central Avenue at Hawthorne Ave, in near a South Roxana school. She was transported to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the bus , Janet Spindel, 62, an employee of Agency for Community Transit (ACT), was drug and alcohol tested in accordance with U.S. DOT policy and, as required, has been placed on administrative leave pending results of those tests.

“We are deeply troubled by this incident,” said ACT Executive Director Jerry Kane. “Our thoughts and prayers are with this young woman and her family.”
