Teens escape St. Louis youth detention facility early Monday morning

The source said the teens got away by breaking out a bathroom window, tying together blankets and climbing and lowering themselves to the ground below.

ST. LOUIS — Two teenagers escaped a juvenile detention center in St. Louis early Monday morning, a law enforcement source confirmed to 5 On Your Side's Christine Byers.

According to the police source, the two teens escaped from the Hogan Street Regional Youth Center before 12:30 a.m.

The source said the teens got away by breaking out a bathroom window, tying together blankets and climbing and lowering themselves to the ground below.

The source said the teens locked the youth leader in the bathroom while the leader was supposed to be watching them.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the teens that escaped the facility were a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old.
