ST. LOUIS — For almost 20 years The Little Bit Foundation has been serving kids in the St. Louis area with food, clothing and essential items.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit was taking care of 14,000 students in the area. CEO and Founder Rose Hanley said that need is even greater.
"It’s multiplied. The needs have multiplied and the children needing our support has multiplied. So Little Bit will work and not stop until all those needs are met," Hanley explained.
As expected, donations are down considerably but that has not stopped them.
They've had to shift to mobile food pantries and delivering groceries and care kits directly to homes. Those kits not only include hygiene items, but stem activities as well to keep the learning going while kids are out of school.
The foundation is also working with school districts to locate areas where hot spots are needed so that communities can have access to the internet. It’s all about meeting basic needs and staying with these families through this tough time.
You can help support by going to a drive-thru at City Foundry this weekend.
Hanley explained, “The foundry and Sugarfire have come together and are doing a fundraiser creating an incredible amount of meals and you can make a donation. You just drive through pick up your meal and make a donation.”
The drive-thru fundraiser is happening on Sunday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. or when food sells out. City Foundry says it will match donations up to $25,000. Proceeds will benefit Little Bit and the Gateway Resilience Fund, which supports local restaurant workers
