Thousands of dollars pour in for family who lost everything in Eureka house fire

The donation page for the Biderman Family had nearly $60,000 by Saturday morning

EUREKA, Mo. — A GoFundMe has raised nearly $60,000 after a Eureka home caught fire on Friday. The family of four that lived in the house escaped with their two dogs and three cats. Sadly, one of the cats did not survive.

Front-door video from across the street showed firefighters working to put out flames at the two-story house in the Legends neighborhood just after midnight.

The owner called on his neighbor Jason Wilhite for help when the chaos broke out. Wilhite said that he ran out of his home and  "saw his [the homeowner's] garage completely go up in flames and then with the wind blowing as much as it did yesterday, it just took off after that."

On Friday, people have been dropping off items at Wilhite's doorsteps to support the family, including blankets and clothing.

"It's just so hard to see a neighbor you were tight with for years and have his family go through something like that is incredibly sad," Wilhite said. "It's great that this community is so kind. They are going to wrap their arms around them and give them all the support they need."

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire but neighbors said it started in the area of the garage.
