UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. — A homeowner in University City is lucky to be alive after a tree smashed through his home just inches from where he and his daughter were sleeping.
It happened just after 3 a.m. as powerful storms pummeled parts St. Louis County.
The tree crushed in the roof, shattered windows, crumbled bricks, and smashed two cars in the driveway. One which homeowner, LB Douglas, said they bought four days ago. He said because of the heavy rains, everything inside then got drenched.
This family has lived on this block for more than 20 years. Now, most of their belongings are destroyed.
“Right now we’re just fortunate, trying to get ourselves together and we’re all here to talk about it,” he said.
Douglas said he’s frustrated with the city because he claims the tree should have been removed months ago. We reached out to the city for comment but have not heard back.
