PONTOON BEACH, Illinois — Two crashes on the same Metro East highway killed a husband and wife, and a 69-year-old man this weekend.

Pontoon Beach Police Department said the first crash happened at around 8:49 PM on Aug. 3. Barry McGrew, 69, was pushing a bicycle across the southbound lane of Highway 111 north of Engineer Road when he was struck by a GMC van going southbound. McGrew was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Police said the second crash happened at around 10:50 PM that same night. Cole and Morgan Whitford, both 29, were on a motorcycle traveling south on Highway 111. The vehicle struck the front driver's side of a van that was making a left turn onto Highway 111. The couple was taken to a local hospital where they died.

Both crashes are under investigation. A GoFundMe has been made for the Whitford family to help support their two daughters.
