AT approximately 10:34 a.m., the Coast Guard Sector Eastern Great Lakes in Buffalo, N.Y. received a distress call. Crews from the Coast Guard Air Station Detroit and a boat from the Station Cleveland Harbor were launched to search for persons in danger.

During the search, the Coast Guard received a tip that a boat crew had come across coolers and "other debris" floating about 1 to 2 miles away from the Perry Power Plant.

Various different crews were able to locate three individuals during their search. Two of the victims were responsive, one was unresponsive. The unresponsive victim was declared dead at a hospital. After the rescue, search crews learned that a fourth person had been in the water. That victim has not been located at this time.

9:30 Update: Search crews have suspended the search for the missing person for the night.

In a separate incident, five people were rescued from Lake Erie in Ashtabula County after they were found clinging to a cooler after their boat capsized. The group had been walleye fishing when their boat was turned over by a wave. All of the rescued victims were wearing life jackets.
