ST. LOUIS - A decades-old local concert venue got a new name Wednesday, as the former Verizon Wireless Amphitheater was renamed the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, concert promoter Live Nation said.
The venue, originally known as the Riverport Amphitheater, has a capacity of 21,000 people. It opened June 14, 1991 with a concert by Steve Winwood.
Live Nation Entertainment acquired the facility in 1998.
UMB purchased the naming rights to the venue in 2002. Verizon Wireless obtained the naming rights in 2006.
Over the last year, the approximately 400,000 people visited the amphitheater to see acts like James Taylor, Journey, Toby Mac, Motley Crue, the Goo Goo Dolls, 311, and OneRepublic.
In 2015, Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre welcomes the Warped Tour, Nickelback, and Foo Fighters to town for shows.
