ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — On Veterans Day, the National Memorial of Military Ascent (NMMA) is hosting a fundraiser at Café Napoli in Clayton to honor the sacrifices of veterans, while raising funds for the development of the NMMA.
This fundraiser is for the construction of the NMMA, a veteran memorial complex against the limestone bluffs of Grafton, Illinois. The national military memorial aims to represent all branches of the U.S. Armed Services.
The complex will be built at Grafton's Visitor Center. It will have an interactive military museum and life-sized bronze statues of Army Rangers climbing the bluffs in a re-enactment of the Point du Hoc, France military campaign during World War II.
It will also commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of all veterans.
Proceeds from the event will directly support the construction of the memorial and its educational programs.
“We invite the community to join us for an evening of food, music, and remembrance,” said Grafton Mayor Mike Morrow. “This is an opportunity to stand together in gratitude and help build a permanent tribute that will honor our veterans and educate future generations.”
According to Great Rivers & Routes website, the Grafton City Council voted unanimously in Dec. 2022 to look for ways to honor veterans in the city and region.
It said the capital campaign goal is to raise $6 million with a projection of four years to complete.
