Volunteers needed for Cahokia Heights clean-up

If you’re not able to make it on Thursday, there is another opportunity to volunteer on Saturday, Nov. 16.

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill — Thursday morning, volunteers headed to Cahokia Heights to help clean up neighborhoods and streets.

This is part of the 'Clean Up Build Up’ Initiative started by the Urban League of St. Louis. The initiative is expanding to Cahokia Heights for the first time with this clean-up.

The Urban League said they need plenty of helping hands.

Volunteers met the group starting at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning at 300 Annunciation Court in Cahokia Heights. The meeting area is right behind the Penniman School building.

We checked in with the Urban League and confirmed the event will happen rain or shine.

Volunteers were asked to help paint surfaces, clear brush, collect trash, and plant flowers to beautify neighborhoods.

If you’re not able to make it on Thursday, there is another opportunity to volunteer on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The meet up on Saturday will happen at the same time and location.

The Urban League tells 5 on Your Side, some of the main goals are to reduce pollution and make way for more sustainable urban living options.

The group adds, this is part of getting more people and businesses to invest in Cahokia Heights, St. Louis, and communities just like them around the metro-area.

Urban League representatives say the 'Build Up Clean Up' initiative is supported by a number of partners including Ameren, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Missouri, AT&T,  Boeing, Branding Iron, Busey Bank, Commerce Bank, Cushman & Wakefield, East County Enterprises, Fred Weber Inc, Home Depot, Job Corps, Keeley Construction, Mercy, Missouri American Water, IDOT, Paric, Saint Louis Blues, SIUE, Spire, STL Partnership, S.M.
