MISSOURI, USA — This year may not be when Missourians are voting on the nation's next president, but important local changes are still on the ballot this November.
The election on Nov. 7 is a special election for every county in the St. Louis area, including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Jefferson County and St. Charles County. Missouri residents wishing to vote this November must be registered to vote by Wednesday, Oct. 11.
The Missouri Secretary of State's website provides an online voter registration form for new residents or residents who recently moved and allows them to vote. The site also allows residents to check their registration status to make sure they're still able to vote in the state.
St. Louis County has the most changes on the ballot for the special election this November, including:
- Ladue Proposition F: Imposing a sales tax for the city's fire department
- Manchester Proposition A: Annexation of the area next to the city.
- The proposition is also on the ballot for the Boundary Commission of the county.
- Riverview Proposition 1: Voting for the Village of Riverview to become the City of Riverview.
- St. John Proposition M: Sales tax on the adult use of marijuana
- Rockwood School District Proposition 3: A change that will not increase tax rates. If passed, the change would allow the district to move some of the district's tax levy funds from debt servicing to capital projects like school safety and technology.
Editor's note: This story has been updated to clarify Proposition 3 in the Rockwood School District. If passed, the proposition would not increase property taxes.
