FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. — The Washington Police Department and Washington Fire Department spent Sunday searching the Missouri River after a 28-year-old man reportedly entered the water Sunday morning. The search was suspended after Sunday's sunset.
Officials received a call at 10:29 a.m. on Sunday from a family member who said their relative had entered the Washington Missouri Riverfront. The family member who called the police said the man voluntarily entered the water and "has some mental health concerns."
According to a press release from the Washington Police Department, police discovered some of the 28-year-old's personal belongings on a wing dike west of the Missouri River Bridge and in the water to the east of the Missouri River Bridge.
Washington Fire Department, Metro West Fire Protection District, Boles Fire Protection District, Monarch Fire Protection District and Missouri Water Patrol continue to search the area east of the river by boat and by drone, police said at 1:53 p.m. on Sunday.
According to the press release, the man used to be a resident of Franklin County and currently resides in Kansas City, Missouri.
