Wentzville shooting wounds man, multiple people detained

WENTZVILLE, Mo. — A man was shot in the chest in Wentzville early Sunday morning, and police have taken multiple people and a gun into custody.

The shooting happened minutes before 1:30 a.m. in the 100 block of W Allen Street, less than half a mile north of Interstate 70. A verbal argument led to a physical fight before 4 to 5 shots were fired.

Officers arriving at the scene of the shooting found multiple people near the crime scene, including the victim, a written release from the Wentzville Police Department said.

While some officers worked to keep the victim alive, others detained potential witnesses and suspects who remained at the scene.

Officers helped keep the victim alive until a St. Charles County Ambulance District crew took over and transported the victim to the hospital. The victim's injuries were non-life threatening after he was stabilized, a police spokesperson said.

Wentzville police officers were investigating the shooting at the crime scene. W Allen Street was closed between N Church Street and N Linn Street while investigators processed the scene.
