What you need to know before shopping at IKEA

IKEA has some tips on how to best experience the store.
The new IKEA opens in St. Louis.

ID=73093498St. Louis (KSDK) – The new IKEA store is 380,000 square feet of furniture, home goods, and even a restaurant. So, IKEA has some tips on how to best experience the store.

The number one tip is to allow plenty of time. Spokesman Joseph Roth suggests budgeting two to three hours, at least on the first visit.

"The best way to shop an IKEA store is to stay on the path," said Roth.

The store is mapped out with arrows on the ground. There are also signs with maps throughout the store, and there are paper maps available at information kiosks throughout the building.

Along the way in the showroom, there are also signs with information about the space. Some of them include square footage, some include pricing for everything in the display room, and some include where to find the flooring and paint you can't find in the store.

As you're walking through the store, you'll also want to pay close attention to the price tags. For furniture, they include an aisle and bin number, which you'll want to write down in order to find the item in the self serve area.

If you're debating whether to bring the kids along, Roth says, to do so.

"It's a family friendly shopping experience," said Roth.

There are strollers, child activity areas, and free childcare. In t he store, you'll also find lockers and shopping bags. And, if you want to make your stop a quick one, there are shortcuts along the guided path. But, Roth says you'll still want to be ready to walk.

"It always helps to wear comfortable shoes," said Roth.
