Pevely police investigate death of woman found at railroad tracks Monday night

A woman was believed to have been struck and killed by a train behind the Super 8 hotel.

PEVELY, Mo. — Pevely police are investigating the death of a woman believed to have been struck and killed by a train on Monday night.

Chief Mark Glenn said Tuesday the victim had been identified but he wasn’t releasing her name to the public yet.

He described her as being in her 30s and said he did not know where she had been living.

Glenn said the Pevely Police Department was notified that a Burlington Northern train stopped abruptly on railroad tracks behind the Super 8 hotel, 1711 Hwy. Z.

“Last night at about 8 p.m. we received a call from the (Dunklin Fire Protection District) that a train had come to an immediate stop," he said. "Our officers responded and located a woman who had apparently been struck by a train. She was deceased. Her body was discovered on the tracks just west of the Super 8 hotel."
