Woman hit, killed while crossing intersection in St. Louis

Bridgette Martin was crossing the street at a diagonal when she was hit by a pickup truck. The driver had a green light, police said.

ST. LOUIS — A woman was hit and killed while walking across an intersection late Tuesday night in St. Louis.

Emergency crews responded at 11:22 p.m. to Tucker Boulevard and O’Fallon Avenue in the Columbus Square neighborhood just north of downtown. They arrived to find a woman with injuries.

A 5 On Your Side photojournalist at the scene saw first responders place the woman in an ambulance. Police said the woman was rushed to Saint Louis University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

She was identified Wednesday morning as Bridgette Martin, 52, of Overland, Missouri.

St. Louis police shut down several lanes of traffic in the area while they investigated what happened.

The initial police investigation found the woman was walking diagonally across the intersection when she was hit by a Chevy Silverado, police said. The driver had a green light and stayed at the scene. He is cooperating with the investigation, police added.

The department’s accident reconstruction unit responded to the scene and is handling the ongoing investigation.

The family of Bridgette Martin set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses. You can find that by clicking here.
