TROY, Mo. — A country club in Troy, Missouri, caught fire late Sunday afternoon.
The Lincoln County Fire Chief Michael Marlow said the fire started somewhere in the attic of Woods Fort Country Club.
“It's a clubhouse, restaurant and golf shop," Marlow said. "There were golfers present. They were operating the below areas where their golf carts are and whatnot. That was quickly evacuated. Some of the employees saw the fire and pulled the fire alarm, which caused them to get evacuated. So there were no civilian injuries."
They were not exactly sure yet what caused the fire, but they were investigating.
Marlow said the fire started on the restaurant side of Woods Fort Country Club, and it quickly spread. Crews started attacking the fire inside but had to move outside when it burst through the roof.
Luckily, the wedding venue is a separate building and, despite the windy conditions, was untouched.
“There was a red flag warning, which basically means conditions are dry and wind conditions with gusts above 30 mph can cause us issues," Marlow said. "And frankly, we've been fighting brush fires now for the last 48 hours. The crews had two large brush fires today. We were fortunate when this call came in. The crews were in quarters. So first arriving company was six minutes away."
Unfortunately the building is a total loss, Marlow said, but the owner has expressed to him that they want to rebuild because this building is such a landmark in Troy.
