CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — A carnival worker was rescued after being trapped on a Ferris wheel early Tuesday morning in Chesterfield.
Monarch Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Dave Schmitt said the worker was helping dismantle the ride when a section collapsed and trapped him 45 feet in the air shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday.
The wheel was set up in the parking lot of the Chesterfield Mall for the Chesterfield Mall Spring Carnival, which ended on Memorial Day.
Schmitt said the rescue took about 45 minutes, with several firefighters going up to rescue the 54-year-old worker. They harnessed him and lowered him back down to the ground safely.
The man complained of back pain and was taken to a hospital via ambulance after being rescued, but Schmitt said he would be OK.
