MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. -- A once popular hub of entertainment in north St. Louis County, could once again see the kind of traffic of its heyday.
Tenants blame poor management out of Chicago for the decline.Westport Plaza was the place to be in the 80's and 90's but its popularity waned in the early to mid-2000's.
But ever since a new management team took over a few years ago, people are returning and business is picking up.
In an effort to bring even more business to the plaza, the headquarters for World Wide Technology will be constructed on site.
The new building is expected to bring in hundreds of jobs which will mean an economic boost for the plaza.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon joined local governmental and company leaders Tuesday morning to break ground on the planned 210,000 square-foot property. It's expected to open in mid-2017.
Nixon's office says the project is expected to create 500 jobs.
