Miracles keep coming for St. Charles Co. family

John's miraculous story is now the subject of a book written by his mother, Joyce Smith, with Ginger Kolbaba.

He calls it “the miracle on ice.”

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2015, 14-year-old John Smith fell through the ice of Lake St. Louis and was under water for 15 minutes. He went without a heartbeat for more than 45 minutes, but miraculously survived. But not only that, he's thrived. He's now an 11th grader with big plans for the future.

John's miraculous story is now the subject of a book titled, "The Impossible," written by his mother, Joyce Smith, with Ginger Kolbaba.

This Sunday, Oct. 29, the Smith family will hold a book launch event, and the public is invited. It begins at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly Church, 4750 I-70 North Outer Road in St. Peters.

But it's more than a book launch. It's also a celebration honoring the local first responders and doctors who found John at the bottom of the lake and set him on his path of recovery.

Then, tune in to 5 On Your Side Monday, October 30 at 10 p.m., for the latest chapter in this miracle on ice. We’ll tell you what else is in store for the Smith family.

"The Impossible" will be in book stores Nov. 7, 2017. Click here to preorder on Amazon.com.
