OVERLAND, Mo. — This weekend, an Overland nail salon is still cleaning up the mess left behind by a trapped deer.
The four-point buck left behind a wake of damage at VL Nail Salon after breaking through the front window around 11:30 a.m. last Friday.
The owner Lily Vo wasn't sure where it came from since the salon is off of busy Woodson Road and Theodosia Avenue.
At the time, Vo was helping some of her nine customers when the deer locked in on her business.
"When I look up and I heard the boom," Vo said. "It was really loud. It was like a bomb."
The front window is boarded up now but for people who were inside when it happened, they told 5 On Your Side it was a scary moment that's hard to forget.
"Everybody was screaming," Vo said. "It was scary and I tried to let everybody out and it was clearly good, we were very lucky."
Vo opened the Overland salon 21 years ago. She never expected to need three Overland police officers in her shop helping to corral the deer out of their salon bathroom.
"When he ran back there, it was really really scary," Vo said. "Everybody didn't know what happened. It was so scary and awful. It was awful."
"The deer took a good tour because he tried to visit all of the stations," Vo said. "The only thing he did was that he jumped up over everywhere from all the stations. Then messed up everything. He got hurt because he pushed the window and he got cut from the glass. That's why he got cut very bad and was bleeding everywhere."
It's going to cost more than a buck to fix all of this. Vo's insurance won't pay for any of the estimated $14,000 in repairs because the store's policy isn't covered by animal damages.
They're also not taking walk-ins right now which impacts about 50% of their customers, Vo said — but they're glad the deer escaped safely.
The salon is hoping to have all their repairs done in the next five to seven days.
They're not hosting any online fundraisers for the cost of damages, but said they appreciate all the community support from customers and those who have seen the story.
