Orchard Farm community comes together to help flood victims

The community is collecting cleaning supplies and gift cards for those who have been affected by flooding.

ORCHARD FARM, Mo. — Despite all of this heavy rain, flood waters are finally going down across the St. Louis region.

But while it may seem like we're in the clear, there's actually a lot more to be done. Probably the biggest hurdle is trying to salvage what's left behind and clean up the mess.

Luckily for one part of St. Charles County, the community is coming together to offer some help.

In Orchard Farm, their school district is collecting gift cards for about 90 families, who need assistance.

"It takes less storage and we can take them in and take it out to people and they can really truly what they need right away," said Dr. Melissa Daniel, the Executive Director for Student Services. "Even though our students aren't in the classroom during the summer, they're still our kids and we still care about their families and we'll support them in the best way possible."

But the school district isn't alone in stepping up.

Trinity Lutheran Church has donation pods, and inside, they have cleaning supplies like bleach, mops and brooms.

Our first responders are also doing everything they can to help out. Even though parts of Orchard Farm are still underwater, that's not stopping the Orchard Farm Fire Protection District from helping their neighbors.

The director of community relations for St. Charles County Ambulance District, Kyle Gaines tells us, "We have been staffing our Portage Des Sioux area 24/7 with trained urban search responders working 72-hour shifts. They are boating our crews in and out."

For dropping off donations or collecting them, Trinity Lutheran Church has their pods at their school down the street. They are open Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to noon.

The waters are receding and clean-up will be in the near future. Please drop off your cleaning supply donations at Trinity Lutheran School parking lot. The demand will be great so we would love to...

Anyone who is in need or who'd like donate can reach out to the school district by emailing brightfuturesofsd@ofr5.com.
