Bob Onder, former state senator, announces run for Missouri lieutenant governor

Former State Sen. Bob Onder announced his candidacy in a speech Monday morning.

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — A familiar name in Missouri politics is making a move for higher office with a run for lieutenant governor.

Former State Sen. Bob Onder announced his candidacy in a speech Monday morning.

"When I'm lieutenant governor, we will continue to protect life, we will continue to protect the second amendment, we will defund planned parenthood and DEI," he said.

Onder lives in Lake St. Louis and represented parts of St. Charles County in the state senate from 2015 to 2023. In 2022, he sponsored separate bills that would prohibit vaccine mandates by employers, ban "divisive concepts" from being taught in public schools and allow concealed-carry permit holders to bring weapons onto public transportation overseen by Bi-State Development

Onder launched a run for St. Charles County Executive in February of 2022, but dropped out months later, before the Republican primary.

The 2024 primary elections are on Aug. 6.

Onder will challenge House Speaker Dean Plocher and State Sen. Holly Thomas-Rehder in the Republican primary. State Rep. Richard Brown of Kansas has declared his candidacy in the Democratic primary.
