CHICAGO (AP) - Dairy industry magnate and Republican State Senator Jim Oberweis says he's running for the U.S. Senate.
In a video announcing his candidacy, Oberweis says he's taking on Senator Dick Durbin. He characterizes Durbin as a career politician who doesn't understand the lives of average people. He says he'll serve only two terms if elected.
Oberweis has run for office several times for offices such as governor and U.S. Senator before he was elected last year to the state senate.
Oberweis has been criticized for some political ads, the most notably one in which he said the number of illegal immigrants coming into the country every week could fill Soldier Field. In his new video he says he's learned from his mistakes.
