Missouri's 2024 primary election is underway. Here's what you need to know

Polls across the state opened at 6 a.m. and will stay open through 7 p.m.

MISSOURI, USA — Missouri's 2024 primary election opened bright and early on Tuesday, and eyes were on several key races across the state.

Polls opened at 6 a.m. and are set to close at 7 p.m. Those who are in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote. Before election day, you should check your voter registration and nearest polling place, as well as research what races and issues will appear on your ballot.

St. Louis County's Jamestown Elementary will not be open for voting today due to an air conditioning failure, county officials said on X. The Riverchase YMCA location lost power due to a power surge. It said "voting is still occurring thanks to generators but we encourage voters to use another location."

If you plan to vote, be sure to check that you are registered to vote and look for your polling place before election day.

Voters must have a valid photo identification to vote in Missouri. Registered voter who don’t bring a photo ID with them may cast a provisional ballot instead. Provisional ballots will be only counted if you return later that day with an ID or if election officials verify your signature.

The results of the primary elections will be streamed live on 5+, KSDK.com, and KSDK's YouTube channel beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday. 5+ is an app for your TV, available on Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV.

Voters will elect candidates who will represent their party in the general election this fall. In many races, the nominee of the August primary will face little to no opposition in November, making this primary a decisive one. The general election is Nov. 5.

Mail-in voting began on June 25. No-excuse in-person absentee voting began on July 23. The last day to request an absentee ballot was July 24. Voters' final chance to register to vote was July 10.
