Kehoe takes GOP nomination in Missouri governor primary as Ashcroft, Eigel concede

Associated Press called the race later Tuesday night.

ST. LOUIS — Candidates Jay Ashcroft and Bill Eigel conceded the GOP primary for Missouri governor Tuesday evening, securing the nomination for Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe.

Polls for the Missouri primary election closed on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with voters choosing the candidates for November's general election. Tap here for live primary results.

Among the closely-watched races is the race to replace Gov. Mike Parson, who is not running for reelection. The crowded field included three main candidates on the Republican ballot and two main candidates on the Democratic ticket.

Missouri has become a deep-red state in recent years with Parson, a Republican, winning the office in 2020 by more than 16 points and former President Donald Trump winning the state by more than 15 points in both 2016 and 2020.

State Sen. Bill Eigel from Weldon Spring and Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft conceded shortly before 10 p.m.

On the Democratic side, Missouri State House Minority Leader Crystal Quade is projected to win over multimillionaire fast food franchise owner Mike Hamra, who was running for office for the first time.
