ST. LOUIS — Republican Denny Hoskins beat out seven other candidates to take the GOP nomination for Missouri secretary of state in Tuesday's primary election.
Voters were choosing their party's candidates for Missouri secretary of state from a crowded field of hopefuls. Eight Republicans and three Democrats appeared on the primary ballots.

John R. "Jay" Ashcroft was elected to the post in 2016 but is pursuing a nomination for Missouri governor. The secretary of state oversees elections in Missouri, manages business filings and keeps records in the state.
