ST. LOUIS — Missouri voters face several important decisions during the 2024 general election, from local, state and presidential races to ballot issues, including abortion rights and sports betting. To make sure your vote counts, here's what you need to know before heading to the polls.
When are polls open?
Oct. 22 through 5 p.m. on Nov. 4, the day before the election, Missouri voters can cast an in-person absentee ballot without having to provide a reason at a location designated by your local election authority. Hours vary by location.
For those voting on Election Day, the polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Those who are in line by 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote.
What do I need to bring to the polls?
Whether they're voting early or on Nov. 5, Missouri voters will be required to show one of these forms of identification to obtain a ballot:
- A nonexpired Missouri driver or non-driver license;
- A nonexpired military ID, including a veteran’s ID card;
- A nonexpired United States passport; or
- Another photo ID issued by the U.S. or the state of Missouri that is either not expired or expired after the date of the most recent general election.
You will not have to present your voter identification card.
What if I forgot my ID?
Registered voters who don’t bring a photo ID with them on Election Day may cast a provisional ballot instead. However, provisional ballots will be only counted if you return by 7 p.m. with an ID or if election officials can verify your signature. If you cast a provisional ballot, you will receive a stub from your ballot envelope with instructions on how to verify that your provisional ballot is counted.
In-person absentee voters are not eligible for a provisional ballot.
