ST. LOUIS — A social media post from the St. Louis Fire Department showed a leaky roof at a firehouse during a recent rain.
They're trying to get support for Proposition 1.
"Prop 1 is a no-cost bond issue for the city of St. Louis," Chief Dennis Jenkerson said.
Jenkerson said they need the money to fix a dozen firehouses and replace a dozen aging fire trucks.
"Right now, on this truck behind me. the aerial ladder on it does not function," he said.
Jenkerson said many of the trucks are 20 years old and even as they try to keep them in shape, they are becoming problematic.
"They are past their prime and past the time where we can effectively buy parts cheaply," Jenkerson said.
The fire department would get about $16 million of the $50 million dollars generated from Prop 1.
The money would also be used to replace ambulances, the police radio system and update jail facilities.
"The Citizens still have to vote on this bond," Jenkerson said. "It's up to them if they want to buy us new equipment."
