ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — The St. Louis County Council abruptly postponed its meeting Tuesday afternoon after a group of pro-Palestinian protestors began chanting, demanding a ceasefire in Gaza amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
About 15 minutes after the start of the regularly scheduled meeting, about 50 protesters began chanting for the ceasefire.
The protest followed speaker Paige Mathis' public comment on a resolution sponsored by Councilwoman Kelli Dunaway to observe International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
After several minutes of the group chanting "Sam Page funds genocide and this council co-signs," Chairwoman Shalonda Webb called for a recess and agreed to meet Friday afternoon.
A St. Louis County Police Department spokesperson confirmed one woman was taken into custody and other protesters then left without further incident. Police said information on charges should be available on Wednesday.
More than 25,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed as a result of the war between Israel and Hamas since the militant group's terrorist attack.
