ST CHARLES, Mo. — Flooding in St. Charles is delaying one of the city's biggest celebrations of the year -- the Fourth of July Riverfest Celebration.
The Fourth of July Riverfest is a staple for St. Charles, bringing thousands of people to different shops downtown.
"Fourth of July has always been a surprise to us," said Cassandra Keller. "Every year the crowds get bigger."
But this year all those people planning to attend the Riverfest celebration will have to wait till labor day weekend. Frontier Park in St. Charles, where the celebration is usually held, is completely flooded.
"You can't have it in a swamp," said Keller.
It's not all bad news, though. Keller says the date-change could actually bring more people downtown.
"The Fourth of July is on a Thursday this year, so having the festival moved to a weekend, we are hoping more people will be able to show up."
The parade will still happen at 10 a.m. on July 4 and be along the same route as previous years. The fireworks celebration, however, is now scheduled for Aug. 31.
