ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Ambush signed local defender Mike Scharf to a two-year contact on May 14.
Scharf grew up in Wildwood and went to Lafayette High School where he played for Tim Walters, a former Ambush player himself.
His college career was split between Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, Maryville University in St. Louis and Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla.
His Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) career began with the Cedar Rapids Rampage in 2017. Scharf started the 2018-19 season with the Tacoma Stars, appearing in two games before he was traded to the Ambush in February 2019.
“Acquiring Mike in February was a great opportunity for the Ambush to bring home this St Louis native. He knows this community, he grew up here and he's already ingraining himself in the community as an Ambush player. “We are looking forward to watching Mike continue to sharpen his skills as part of the Ambush family for the next two years,” Ambush co-owner and CEO Shelly Clark said.
Scharf is happy to play for the home team. He said, “It’s great to have the opportunity to represent my hometown again. I am looking forward to building on what we did last season. We have a great organization and great fans, and we are ready to push for a championship.”
Season tickets are already available for their 2019-2020 season that will start in the fall.
