EAST ALTON, Ill. — Prosecutors have charged a man more than a week after a pedestrian was killed in an East Alton hit-and-run crash.
The East Alton Police Department said Thursday that the Madison County State's Attorney's Office charged Jonathan Knox, 32, of Alton, with several counts in connection with the crash.
Knox was charged with one felony count each of failure to report a fatal accident and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, along with one misdemeanor count each of driving with a revoked license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
John Gleason Jr. was struck and killed on Jan. 2 on the 600 block of Powder Mill Road, near the Winchester Ammunition plant. The tan pickup truck that hit him left the scene.
Investigators last week found the pickup truck they were looking for and later identified Knox as the driver.
Knox was arrested, booked and released on Jan. 5. Investigators met Thursday with prosecutors, who then formally charged Knox in the fatal crash.
Charges were expected to be filed later Thursday, police said.
