ST. LOUIS — People in south St. Louis say all that flooding we've seen this week is stinking up their neighborhood. Garbage and debris is collecting in the River Des Peres.
"We have to look at it every single day,” Jamie Reese said.
"There's definitely a lot of people stopping and taking pictures,” Jason Gray said.
Neighbors say they first noticed the trash over the weekend, and the pile is still growing.
"It looks like a dump, like, no one wants to live next to a dump,” Reese said.
Neighbors believe the cause is the flooding we're seeing around St. Louis.
"It's coming down from all the rivers and it's flowing into our area,” Ann Reeber said.
Reese wants to be a part of the solution. She’s organizing volunteers to clean it up.
"We're going to try to pick up as much of the trash as we can, at least the debris along the walkways,” she said.
"We're not trash. I don't want my neighborhood to look like trash,” Reeber said.
If you want to help, volunteers are meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fultz Baseball Field along the River Des Peres.
