A really bizarre set of circumstances resulted in a man accidentally shooting his mother-in-law after the bullet ricocheted off an armadillo, WALB reports.

Larry McElroy, 54, fired his handgun at an armadillo the backyard of his Georgia home. The bullet killed the armadillo, but then ricocheted off it, then bounced off a fence before going through the door of his mother-in-law's mobile home. The bullet also passed through the recliner she was sitting in before striking her in the back. Authorities are somewhat baffled.

Luckily, it seems as if McElroy's 74-year-old mother-in-law, Carol Johnson, was not severely injured. She was able to get up and walk around, and was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Although armadillos are considered varmints in Georgia, unsurprisingly, the authorities don't recommend shooting them with a handgun as an effective means of getting rid of them.
