Sponsored: Breaking Ground for a Better Belleville | The City of Belleville's Infill Development Program

The City of Belleville is undergoing a "community refresh" by building houses in vacant lots to encourage sustainable living.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. — The City of Belleville’s Infill Development Program aims to promote homeownership and revitalize established neighborhoods by selling vacant lots to new homeowners.

They are breaking ground for a better Belleville on Queensway Drive.

"We're at 24 Queensway and this is one of the first infill projects that we sold. This is going to be a beautiful three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home. Just a hair over $225,000, exciting young family coming in here who will have a fantastic home when this is done," says Rick Swain the Vice President of Sales at C.A Jones.

For over 25 years, C.A. Jones has been building modern single-family homes in the Metro East, and they teamed up with Mayor Patty Gregory and the City of Belleville for this new project.

"This is a great well-established neighborhood. And it's been very wonderful the response that we have had towards this, the beauty of it is that these homes are being built brand new. And they range from over 1000 square feet to 1500. And the price point for our brand-new home in a well-established neighborhood...they run between 225,000 to 275,000," says Gregory.

The Infill Project will ultimately reduce the City's financial obligations to upkeep abandoned properties, increase revenue from taxable properties, and add to the local economy by attracting more residents. It's something to be excited about for the Director of Economic Development for the City of Belleville, Clifford Cross.

"The City of Belleville is a 200-plus-year-old community, and it's an older community, an established community. I think people forget about how great it is in terms of the quality of life that we offer our residents here. So, we feel by bringing in homeownership and young professionals into the community, we can bring that true live, work, play environment....and bring young professionals back to the City of Belleville," Cross says.
