ST. LOUIS — Yesterday was the first day of Summer, which means we are quickly approaching the hottest part of the year, and the experts at Academy Air wants you to be prepared!
Thursday morning, H-VAC service Manager, Bryan Enger, and Comfort Advisor, Aaron Franke of Academy Air joined Mary in studio to share tips on staying cool for the summer.
Bryan explained that, "the biggest risk is having a system that simply is not operating at peak efficiency, and with too much stress during the hottest days the system will not keep up and risk failing completely."
To prevent this:
- Schedule an annual maintenance check-up - coils washed, testing of all components inside and outside. This is all included in Academy's "Tune Up and Memberships".
- Clean and/or change your filter regularly.
- Large brush and landscaping around your unit should be trimmed to ensure clear air flow.
- Seal any openings around doors and windows that may let air out or in.
- Utilize ceiling fans in your home to keep air moving.
- Use window tint/film or blinds for the especially hot days/weeks.
- Dehumidifiers are a great tool to use during the summer. Do your homework to check on any potential recalls or hazards portable dehumidifiers have.
But, what should a homeowner look for or ask, when they need to get an estimate to replace their HVAC system?
Aaron went onto explain that homeowners can be prepared and know if a company knows what they are doing by looking out for these items:
- Does the company do an energy evaluation with sizing/load calculations and compare that to your existing system?
- Did the company evaluate the entire duct system downstairs and around your home to see what it is capable of handling and how it is currently performing in relation to the system?
- Does the company offer any additional guarantees/warranties/or services beyond the manufacturers’ warranty to back the company’s workmanship and quality as well as the manufacturer?
- Did the company explain and educate you on all the different technologies and types of options and educate you on what is available or simply write a price and spend less than 30 minutes with you. A knowledgeable company should be spending the time necessary to evaluate. This is not a box swap industry and there is a fine science behind it.
But the business' offerings go beyond HVAC maintenance and service.
They also perform residential and light commercial electrical work, such as full panel upgrades, surge protection, light remodeling, and interior and exterior lighting
For plumbing, they perform service and upgrades including water heaters, tankless water heaters, water softeners and conditioners, sump pumps, and anything plumbing related in the home – even full drain and main line service with excavation.
