ST. LOUIS — Competition is serious at the Gateway Region YMCA.
Seriously, fun!
The YMCA offers youth sports leagues and clinics across the region.
These young soccer stars from the South City Y are ready for Mary, Malik, and me to go head-to-head in the Show Me Games.
They brought in the pros too! St. Louis City SC defender, Jake Nerwinski, joined us for practice!
"Growing up I started playing soccer when I was four years old. I loved it ever since. And I think that you know soccer is not only a sport, it teaches a lot of life lessons as well, that I've brought into my adulthood. It helps with people skills, communication, teamwork, you know, all those things that just become very vital," Nerwinski says.
CITY SC and the Gateway Region YMCA share a commitment to make soccer accessible in our community.
"We offer soccer in three sessions at the YMCA here. One in the Spring and two Fall sessions. Our partnership with City SC allows us to provide low-cost to the children in the program. Our members pay a $5 fee and our non-members only pay a $10 fee," says Andy Bohanan, the District Sports Director for the South City and Carondelet YMCA.
Along with providing new equipment, the soccer club implemented a new soccer curriculum at the YMCA to heighten the level of training and play.
Sports and Rec at the YMCA create a healthy outlet for children to gain new skills, learn to work as a team and connect with positive role models.
The Show Me team had a ball in this seriously, fun edition of the Show Me Games!
Tune in next Wednesday to watch us go head-to-head in volleyball and basketball.
We will be live on our plaza on Thursday, July 25th at 10 a.m. to celebrate the finals of our Show Me Games competition and see which of us takes home the gold!
