Sponsored: How Longmeadow Rescue Ranch gives horses like Thistle a second chance

Hear one heartwarming story of friendship that first started from the rehabilitation efforts of Longmeadow Rescue Ranch

ST. LOUIS — “The second she stepped off the trailer I just fell in love,” says Kaitlyn Tobben, Lead Ranch Assistant.

Meet Kaitlyn Tobben…and her friend, Thistle. What led to this companionship was a story of suffering.

“She was just skin and bones,” says Tobben. “She had no meat on her body.”

Thistle was one of 4 mares rescued by Longmeadow Rescue Ranch.

“She was the worst, she needed so much care,” says Anna Gates, Ranch Supervisor.

“They were all covered in parasites and skin and bones, you could tell that they had never been taken care of before,” says Tobben.

“We aid in the rescue and rehabilitation of farm animals across the state of Missouri,” says Gates.

Longmeadow Rescue Ranch is one of the most comprehensive farm animal care and rehabilitation centers in the country. Tobben is one of the lead ranch assistants at Longmeadow. She worked hands on with Thistle’s recovery, until she decided she wanted to take this new pal home. Finding a forever home is what Longmeadow Rescue Ranch strivers for!

“Seeing them make their full recovery and then going home to their forever family is my favorite part of this job,” says Gates.

However, in order to continue to rescue these animals, they need your help! It is a day focused on stories like Thistle! It is the day of giving! On February 13th, you can help make miracles happen for needy animals. Any amount goes a long way for horses like Thistle that deserve a second chance.
